Resident Evil leads. Ada Wong is the recurring wildcard who has never quite been an ally or an enemy.
Horror franchises
Silent Hill, Amnesia, Outlast, Dead Space
Horror franchises at opposite extremes — Dead Space arms you heavily, Amnesia gives you nothing at all to fight with.
Co-op horror hits
Phasmophobia, Lethal Company, Content Warning, GTFO
The co-op horror boom, all of it post-2020 and most of it from very small teams. Lethal Company was largely one developer.
Classic survival horror
Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis, Clock Tower, Fatal Frame
Survival horror from the late nineties and early two-thousands. Parasite Eve and Dino Crisis are Square and Capcom respectively, both trying to do Resident Evil differently — Dino Crisis was directed by Shinji Mikami, who had made Resident Evil itself.
